Description

Original 1st printing 14&1/4 x 20" concert poster for Quicksilver Messenger Service appearing with Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin -her first headlining performances with BBHC) at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA from 6/24-25/1966.

Art by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley, image ("Zig-Zag Man") is # 14 in the Family Dog/Avalon series.

Medium flat vellum stock poster is in very good (B/B+) condition; there is a single tack hole in the top center margin, along with a bit of relatively minor edge toning (including a thin vertical discoloration in the lower left margin), a couple of thin vertical/diagonal bends along the upper left/right margins, a few tiny pin-prick surface spots, light handling/stress bends and scuffs scattered around the image area, a small diagonal bend in the lower left corner, a set of tape pulls on the reverse side and a bit of minor edge wear/creasing along the right margin area, otherwise fine.

KILLER unrestored 1st printing example of this ALWAYS in-demand early Family Dog poster.

*this particular example leans rather heavily towards the silver/"pewter" end of the spectrum on the metallic pass of ink, most I have seen are closer to gold/brown.
